What is the Expansion Initiative?
Innovation Academy Charter School’s Expansion Initiative evolved from an effort to support our mission to prepare students for the 21st century and expand the excellence achieved in our first 15 years. In 2010, our school commissioned a task force to begin developing a plan for our campus that would guide us in a gradual increase in student enrollment in the high school grades, and ultimately create a Master Plan framework for facilities to ensure academic, creative and athletic growth. We believe that all students who are willing to make their best effort, when given the proper support, can meet with success in a challenging academic program. Our Expansion Initiative intends to provide that proper support as we adapt to new technologies, an expanding high school student population, and other 21st century opportunities.
Why Must We Raise Funds?

The Expansion Initiative is a proposed multi-year plan (starting in 2011) to expand campus facilities to meet the growing needs of our student body. As a charter school, we are not part of a town’s budget and we are not eligible for state building assistance funds – this means that we have to pay for all facilities ourselves—both current and new facilities! At around 10% of our budget, facility costs are the largest percentage of our budget after staff salaries. While our mortgage is manageable under our current enrollment and program structure, as we begin to expand enrollment, our programs and our facilities, we will need to raise money for those projects.
